For the last several months, a small group of people have been reading and meeting monthly to pray about and discuss our youth ministry. One of the things we’ve learned is that every child and student needs at least five adults on their “team.” They need adults who show up to their events, ask about their interests, sit with them in worship, and share their life with the young person. One advantage of a smaller congregation is that we get to know all our youth, and have the opportunity to be on their team.
If you want to support ministry to youth in our church, there are a few small things you can do.
- Learn the names of the youth in our church and greet them by name on Sunday
- Commit to praying for the young people of our church
- Attend the games or special events of our youth.
Young people to include in your prayers are Afton, Brady, Emma, Eva, Grant, Jackson, Jenna, Kaden, Kyndal, Matt, Mickayla, Quentyn, Rachel, Sierra, and Zach. The third suggestion may not be feasible for you, but learning names and offering prayers are small acts of love that anyone can do- no matter how young, old, or busy you may be. The Lord has entrusted these young people to the care of our congregation, and we honor God by doing everything in our power to love and disciple them!
Here are some upcoming opportunities to support our youth:
January 7th at 6;00 YHS Cheer, supporting Sierra and Kyndal
January 11th at 5:30 YMS Basketball, supporting Quentyn and Kaden
January 20th at 5:30 YMS Basketball, supporting Quentyn and Kaden
January 20th at 7:30 YHS Cheer, supporting Sierra and Kyndal

Teaching Team Article
This month we’re featuring the work of the teaching team. The purpose of this team is to help people of all ages mature as disciples through Christian education, mentorship, and small groups, including settings that are intentionally interactive and intergenerational. They oversee ministries such as Sunday school, small groups, children and youth, and short-term studies. Russ Miller leads this team, and serves alongside Barb Baker, John Chaille, Mickala Leffler, and Ron Sloan.
This team is actively looking for new members between the ages of 15 and 60. If you are a young, or middle-aged adult with a passion for Christian formation, the teaching team might be right up your alley!
Opportunity to Serve
In 2022, YUMC will prepare and serve the meal for Covenant Partners every fifth Sunday. January 30th is our first opportunity to do so. If you are interested in helping prepare or serve the meal, please contact Pastor Kate or Linda Riegle.
Opportunity to Grow
Is spiritual growth one of your New Year’s Resolutions for 2022? Have you been looking for ways to build your faith? Are you a regular worshiper considering membership?
If you answered “Yes” to any of these questions, then Foundations Class if for YOU!
The next round of Foundations class will be conducted by zoom (so our snowbirds can participate too!) on Wednesdays at 7pm. Classes begin on January 12th. For more information, or to sign up, please contact Pastor Kate at kate.muhlbaier@inumc.org.
