Our Worship Style

Traditional for us refers to a seasoned approach to worship, following the liturgical calendar, using liturgy, incorporating hymns, embracing a variety of musical gifts, and a sense of community that enhances familiarity and connection.

Communion

1st Sunday's of Each Month

Join us on the first Sunday of every month for a traditional communion service that is open to anyone and everyone who wishes to participate in the goodness of God through Jesus Christ.

Worship
Our Faith Community Gathering, Giving, and Growing

Worship is the heart of the Christian faith, and it's the heartbeat of life at Yorktown Methodist Church (YMC). 

At YMC, we believe worship is for the WHOLE family of God, including our kiddos!  We don’t separate our children from their church family, rather we spend the first part of service together, so that our young people build relationships with loving and faithful adults. We also like to incorporate older kids in worship as they learn to serve and lead.

Discipleship Pathway

We are each growing and maturing in faith along our individual discipleship journey by first being mentored and then by serving as a mentor to others in the community.

It is critical that our process of discipleship does not have an ending point. Instead, it is a circular journey where we enter into it alongside the encouragement, guidance, and under the support of a caring mentor who journeys along with us; eventually, at some point, we will find ourselves caring for and leading another person in the same way. This process is a whole-life experience of being led and simultaneously leading.

Prayer

Supporting EVERYONE in building a relationship with God and others through prayer.

With this foundational internal and external first priority, we will invest into the spiritual growth process that transforms hearts to come into alignment with God’s mission activating the power of the spirit through intercessory prayer while partnering us with the needs, petitions, and concerns of our neighbors. (Ephesians 6:18, Philippians 4:6, Colossians 1:3&9)

Community

Reaching out to EVERYONE with the love and grace of God.

We will strive to create a community environment representative of a healthy family that welcomes, serves one another, displays compassion, seeks the fullness waiting to be uncovered in each person’s life, and works to raise mature adults who know they belong to the body of Christ. (Deuteronomy 15:7, Mark 6:34, Ephesians 6:23)

Understanding the Bible

Helping EVERYONE understand the Bible and apply it to daily life.

We will elevate the understandings of the library of scripture found in the Bible so that each person will know how to read, interpret, navigate, wrestle with, and obey its teachings. Through this, we will help to give life to history, poetry, teaching, and prophecy that inspire our daily life and interactions with others. (John 20:30-31, 2 Timothy 3:15-16)

Worship

Encouraging EVERYONE to give glory to God through worship.

We will foster opportunities that will strengthen the actions and attitude of worship that is a joyful and living offering. (Deuteronomy 11:1, Psalms 100:2, Romans 12:1, Ephesians 5:19)

Giving

EVERYONE, sharing their gifts and resources with God and others.

In helping to develop mature followers of Jesus, we will cultivate the spiritual discipline of offering our whole selves to God. We will build a culture of generosity and support (time, talents, and treasures) that will elevate the collective work of the church, community organizations, and families impacting the lives of individuals. (1 Corinthians 15:58, 2 Corinthians 9:7&12, Hebrews 13:16)

Encouragement

Bringing hope to EVERYONE on life’s journey.

Our efforts in prayer, community, scripture, worship, and interactions should always elevate the emotional state of others as we come alongside them and their needs. We will not only point the way to the comfort and grace found in God’s salvation, we will love and serve them on behalf of Jesus. (Acts 18:27, Romans 8:26, 2 Thessalonians 2:16-17, 1 Peter 5:10)

Worship Volunteers

We believe that all who worship with us should be blessed by that time with God and other believers. We invite those who call this their faith home, to serve others and help to make worship happen each week.

  • Those who are gifted in hospitality can serve as a greeter and welcome others into the presence of God and God's family. 
  • Anyone with a willingness to learn the technology can join our dedicated AV team with lyrics projection, video camera operation, audio board control, and video uploading.
  • If you have a heart for music, we welcome your participation.  Singers can join the choir, or lead in special music. Musicians are welcome to join in on congregational songs or share their gifts with solos. We also have an active hand bell choir (The Bell Tones), which is available to people of all musical abilities! 
  • We also have a liturgists, a person who enriches the worship service by leading in the reading of liturgy and Scripture.
  • Last, but certainly not least, we have an active prayer team who lifts up the congregation and community before each service. These people work together to bring us a passionate worship experience which blends traditional and modern elements, and creates an environment where we can give our best to God.
