Brian and Denise Luke
Many wonder how Biblical literacy can develop when one does not read. Biblical fluency is developed through word-for-word telling, retelling and memorizing Bible stories and passages in the hearers heart language. The stories are then retold over and over to family, friends and neighbors. The oral arts of storytelling, drama, song, dance, and poetry are keys to sharing the Good News among the oral cultures of the world.
During a training, Ade, a new SIU partner, said, "I used to create lengthy outlines for my teachings and insisted everyone take notes. However, they still were not able to recall what was taught. Then I started telling the stories of the Bible, and their eyes lit up. The stories captured the people's attention. Fifty and sixty year old grandmas who can not read or write are now retelling the stories to their families and neighbors."
After a recent training with Ade and his network of leaders, they were excited to "Go tell the Story". Their network of church planters are actively putting the newly gained strategy and tools into practice.
Brian and Denise count it a privilege to serve with and care for the SIU trainers as they train, coach and encourage SIU's partners who lead large networks of men and women in spreading the Kingdom of God through oral Scripture engagement. Please pray for Ade and the other 51 SIU partners.
