A Word From Pastor Kate (August 2022)

A Word from Pastor Kate

A few weeks ago, it was announced that I will be leaving Yorktown Methodist Church at the end of the summer. This decision came after much prayer and discernment. I have loved serving this congregation. We’ve been very happy here and leaving people we care for was no easy decision. However, RC and I are being called by the Holy Spirit to a new mission field.

We have accepted an appointment in the Global Methodist Church. On September 1st, RC and I will begin co-pastoring the Garden (formerly known as Gethsemane) in Muncie. We have complete peace that this is the place God is leading us to and are very excited about all that God is doing.

As I reflect on the last three years at YUMC, I am overwhelmed with gratitude. This church has loved me and my family so well. You’ve been flexible and gracious during covid, eager to give, ready to serve, and hungry for the Word of God. Being your pastor has been an honor.

Pastoral transitions always bring a measure of sadness (for the congregation and the pastor). It’s okay to be sad, so long as we don’t lose sight of the hope we have for the future. I believe God wants to use YUMC to spread the good news of Jesus throughout Yorktown, and I am praying for just the right pastor to lead you toward faithfulness and fruitfulness.

In the coming weeks, I hope we have lots of opportunities to celebrate all God has done and say goodbye to a sweet season of ministry together. After this month, I will no longer be your pastor, but I will remain your sister in Christ and friend.
