Dear Susanna (August 2022)

Dear Susanna,

I attended the discernment meeting on July 24, but I am still really up in the air. I can see good and merit in both ways. I will be really honest with you, I just want to go back in time. I want our church to be just our church. I don't want to have to choose sides. Yes, I know that some people feel very strongly about issues related to human sexuality and some have concerns with the Book of Discipline, both pro and con, but that is not the main thing that being a Christian is all about. It is about loving Jesus, and sharing that love with others. It is about worshiping and praising God. It is about reading your Bible and praying for those it need. I just want our church to be our church.

Grieving Grace

Dear Grace,

I hear you. It is difficult for some to figure out what takes the priority in this process that will tip things one way or the other. I would recommend watching the presentation from July 24 again. https://vimeo.com/733050447 Definitely plan on attending a cottage meeting so you have the opportunity to discuss it with others. Bathe this decision in prayer. Add some additional Bible time, and ask God to direct your thoughts during that time.

While this is a big decision, don't let it stress you too much. Our church is still our church. Our church family is still our church family. It is not easy right now with lots of change going on, but we will get through this. Pray for the other members of our congregation, the Leadership Council, and the pastor. God has blessed us so many times before, He will again.

Love & Prayers,

Susanna

Dear Susanna,

I am so disappointed to hear that Pastor Kate is leaving. I really loved that girl. I hope we are planning a great send off for her. I do wish her and her family well.

I am concerned about the YUMC though. We're between pastoral appointment times, and with all the change going on will we be able to find someone? When will we find out about who our new pastor will be?

Worried Wanda

Dear Worried,

Don't be. Put your faith and trust in God for the doorways and opportunities that are going to open. Praise God! We will have a very special Farewell Fellowship for Pastor Kate, RC, and the boys on Sunday, August 21 at 10:45 in Fellowship Hall. In addition to special treats that day, we will have a brief program and the opportunity for all to share. Plan to be there.

The Leadership Council is working with District Superintendent Russ Abel for the best match for us. It may be an interim for right now, but that is fine. Please keep that process in prayer. As soon as a candidate is selected and approved, it will be announced. Remember that God is God. Our pastoral needs will be met. Our responsibility is to be faithful and pray.

Love & Prayers,

Susanna

Susanna,

Did I hear the Women's Breakfast group is getting together again at Osborn's?

Hungry Harriett

Dear Harriett,

You sure did! Second Tuesday of the month at Osborn's in Yorktown at 8:30 a.m. We will begin on August 9th!

BTW - YUMC Men, are you ready to start your breakfast group? Get the information to us, and we will let the others know.

Love & Prayers,

Susanna

"Dear Susanna" is a feature of the YUMC monthly newsletter. Susanna Wesley never preached a sermon, published a book, or founded a church, yet Susanna Wesley is known as the Mother of Methodism. The example of faith and religious reverence she set for her children John and Charles inspired them to become powerful spiritual leaders, and to launch the Methodist movement.
