Spiritual Journey of Loretta Hiatt

by Ella Reff

A woman at Yorktown Methodist Church who has worn many hats is Loretta Hiatt. She grew up in Muncie and attended Avondale UMC, and through the years she could be seen at Gethsemane UMC, Grace Baptist, and Tabor Baptist. She made her commitment to Christ on March 31, 1976, at Grace Baptist Church and was baptized there. Loretta reconnected with Yorktown Methodist Church in 1995.

Like all of us humans, during her life's journey she has had struggles, ailments, and disappointments. She stated, "I will say I couldn't have survived without Jesus Christ my Savior."

Throughout the decades, she has served the church with her various talents. She said, "At Grace Baptist, I started two libraries for the school. I was a director of girls' Awana Scouts. I taught Bible school and served on the Bus Ministry. At our church I taught Sunday School, sang in the choir, led small groups, and started a Singles Group."

A Bible passage which gives her strength is found in Proverbs 3:5-7: "Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not rely on your own insight. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths. Do not be wise in your own eyes; fear the Lord and turn away from evil." (RSV)
