A Word from Pastor Matthew
I am truly honored, excited, and humbled to begin serving as the interim pastor here at Yorktown. I usually begin my first newsletter article at a “new” congregation with a short biography. However, if you were paying attention to the July newsletter, I have already shared parts of my story.
As I begin to think about this interim change in relationship, I am reminded of another September. My third day of seminary was September 11, 2001. I remember standing in the Lounge Area at seminary and watching on television as the second plane hit the World Trade Center in New York. I remember knowing at that moment that the world in which I was called to lead as a pastor had changed forever.
We are in the process of exiting the Covid pandemic (or at least the mass shut-downs, isolations, etc.).The last two years have led to the realization that the world has again changed in dramatic ways. The way we communicate, the way in which we connect, the way in which we operate as a church are not the same as before the pandemic. We must adapt, to think about the future, to embrace the challenges and chart a bold path forward in ministry to the community of Yorktown and beyond. It is not an option. It is a must.As your interim pastor, I have one main goal. It is to work with you to help you prepare for your future ministry. I want to listen to your dreams (and concerns), to ask good questions to help you think about what could be, and to help you set the stage for the next pastor.
I am looking forward to the opportunity to lead you over the next several months. I look forward to the conversations that we will have together. I am excited about what can be!
In Christ!
