Dear Susanna (October 2022)

Dear Susanna,

So we have made a decision to disaffiliate, what happens next? What does the timeline look like?

Wondering Walter

Dear Wondering,Our vote to disaffiliate must first be approved at a specially called meeting of the annual conference of the Indiana United Methodist Church on November 19th. There is also quite a bit of legal work to do in preparation for this. The next big step is to decide what denomination we want to affiliate with or if we want to become an independent church. The Leadership Council will begin seriously reviewing the possible options this month, and get a recommendation out to the congregation. We do not want to rush this decision, and want to feel confident about the selection. Then effective December 1, 2022 we will no longer be considered the Yorktown Methodist Church. We will need to choose a new name. After those decisions are made, we will be working with the denomination we will become a part of or independently to place a full time pastor at our church. Please keep our Leadership Council and church family in prayer as we journey to our next step.

Love & Prayers,

Susanna

Dear Susanna,

I have been praying a lot for our church family. This has been a tough season when so many different thoughts and feelings have been brought to the surface. I am glad the vote is over! Those same prayers have made me realize the need to step up and take on a more active role in our church. What are some of the ways I can help?

Vernon Volunteer

Dear Volunteer,

Thank you for your prayers for our church family. Something like this can be very divisive. Reach out to those that need the extra support and love right now. I am pleased you feel the need to become more involved. We are in great need of leaders to step forward. The vote has delayed our normal nomination process, but we have some key openings on the Leadership Council, and within the Ministry Team. We need volunteers to build a children's ministry, help with the Carry-in on Oct. 23, sign up for Fellowship Sundays, help the AV team, reach out to others. We need more than just you, though. We need a number of people to step up and help our church to thrive.

Love & Prayers,

Susanna
