Blessed are those whose ways are blameless,
who walk according to the law of the Lord.
Blessed are those who keep his statutes
and seek him with all their heart—
-Psalm 119;1-2, NIV
After five months as your pastor, I want to share one of the things that I think we, as a congregation, need to focus on in this season. (Okay, nine months if you count the interim months). Our church has focused our ministries into four distinct areas: Reaching, Teaching, Caring, and Serving. While all of these are important. and we will continue to encourage, support, and expand each ministry; there is one that I am going to be giving more attention to in the next few months than the others, the teaching ministry.
I believe that the church’s ability to be a witness for the love of Christ is strengthened when it has a strong biblical foundation. I also believe that a person’s faith is strengthened when they are engaged in biblical studies and fellowship with other Christians. And it is the church leadership’s responsibility to offer opportunities for our people to engage in these activities.
Earlier this spring, a card was passed out during a worship service to gauge the interest of different types of teaching ministries. The largest interest was around small groups. To that end, the Teaching Team has decided to offer an opportunity for you to learn more about small groups. After the worship service on June 11th , we will meet in Fellowship Hall to explain what a small group is and to hopefully begin the process of starting one or two more by the fall.
If you are interested in a small group (or want more information) please plan on attending.
In Christ!
Pastor Matthew
