A Word From Pastor Matthew

"For we are co-workers in God’s service; you are God’s field, God’s building." (1 Corinthians 3:9, NIV)

Well, believe it or not, the day you get this newsletter, I will have been the pastor of Yorktown Methodist Church for one year. What started out as a stop-gap assignment has become an opportunity to serve with you for what I hope is a long, long time. I thought this anniversary would be an opportunity for me to share a few of my impressions so far. I do not have the space to include them all.

First, this church loves the people who are a part of our congregation. You truly know how to take care of the people you love. You make great effort to stay connected to each other.

Second, you love the community. Your support of the ministries of REACH Yorktown (Food Pantry, Kids in the Meadow, and Connect Student Ministry) and Hands of Hope shows a desire to assist our neighbors. Your willingness to start up a Sewing Circle to make items for hospitals and nursing homes is a testament to your love and care.

Third, your financial support for the ministries of the church should be commended. Amid a turbulent year, your financial contributions to the church have increased. We have been able to support more ministries and do needed maintenance due to your generosity.

If I had one desire, it would be that we would increase the opportunities that we have to work together in ministry. Instead of individual volunteering, what would it look like if we were truly co-laborers together in ministry with one another and with our neighbors? What would it look like if Yorktown Methodist Church went out as a group to serve the friends and neighbors in the Yorktown community?

Thank you for the opportunity to serve as your pastor. Here’s to more years of service together.

In Christ!

Pastor Matthew
