Yet in thy dark streets shineth The everlasting Light;
Read: John 8:12-15
In the gospel of John, Jesus makes several statements about himself beginning with “I am”. These statements are a tie to him being the Messiah and his connection to God. It echoes back to the name that God gave to Moses in the book of Exodus:
God said to Moses, “I am who I am. This is what you are to say to the Israelites: ‘I am has sent me to you.’” (Exodus 3:14)
In the eighth chapter of the gospel of John, Jesus states that “I am the light of the world” (verse 12). As God’s Son, Jesus brought the light of God’s love, grace, and mercy into a dark and hurting world. As the Messiah, he came to redeem the world from darkness.
Is there a place in your life where you need the Light of the World”?
How can you spread God’s love, grace, and mercy to your friends, family, and others in your community?
