Dear Susanna,
I have been talking to my niece about visiting us some Sunday. She has asked some really good questions about what our church believes, and to be honest I don't know the answers. Isn't there a Book of Discipline or something that helps spell out what we believe?
Ashley's Aunt
Dear Aunt,
There is a Book of Discipline for the UMC, but I don't think that is where you want to look. It is very involved. I can recommend our church website though, https://yorktownchurch.org/ . There is even a section titled "I'm New" and it answers some of the questions that a guest might wonder about. It also has a section for past sermons, newsletters, a current calendar, and more. It's a pretty cutting edge website for our congregation. Check it out!
Love & Prayers,
Susanna
Dear Susanna,
I really like the new banners hanging up in the sanctuary. They do add a nice crisp look to the worship service. However, I also loved the old banners and memories of those who had created them. What happened to those banners?
Wondering Wendy
Dear Wondering,
I am glad you are pleased with the new ones. We do appreciate the time and effort that went into the old banners. They will now be stored in a plastic tote as part of the church history. There are two in the closet that are still hanging that were made by Joe Grady. They are definite works of art! Joe was a very talented artist. Thanks for checking on them.
Love & Prayers,
Susanna
"Dear Susanna" is a feature of the YUMC monthly newsletter. Susanna Wesley never preached a sermon, published a book, or founded a church, yet Susanna Wesley is known as the Mother of Methodism. The example of faith and religious reverence she set for her children John and Charles inspired them to become powerful spiritual leaders, and to launch the Methodist movement.
