How silently, how silently, The wondrous gift is given; So God imparts to human hearts The blessings of His Heaven. No ear may hear His coming, But in this world of sin, Where meek souls will receive Him still, The dear Christ enters in.

This verse may get to the heart of the gospel message. God sent a part of himself to Earth in order to restore humanity’s relationship to God. The baby born that first Christmas morning was a blessing to all humankind. 

The opening to the gospel of John reminds us that Jesus has been with God from the beginning. Jesus as the Divine Word was with God at the moment of creation. The Word goes with us each day we live.
