O come to us, abide with us, Our Lord Emmanuel!

Read: Ephesians 3:14-21

When we use the name, Emmanuel, for Jesus, we are stating a claim. In Greek (the original language of the New Testament), Emmanuel means “God with Us”. When we claim that Jesus is Emmanuel, we are affirming that we believe that Jesus is God’s Son.

When we ask Jesus to abide with us today, we are asking for the Holy Sprit to help us stay connected to God. We want Jesus to live amongst us. We want to interact with God through the outpouring of the Holy Spirit. Asking Christ to abide with us is about more than having him be in the neighborhood. It is asking Christ to be an active presence in your comings and goings. It is asking Christ to be in your “circle of friends”. To abide, to live with you.

When was the last time you asked Christ to abide with you?

What would it take for you to open our heart to a relationship with Christ?
